Hi! Remember the concept of foldable smartphones I mentioned in 2019 smartphones? Xiaomi might have just overtaken Samsung X with their foldable smartphone. Here’s a video of it
Chinese phone manufacturer Xiaomi has entered the folding phone battleground with a prototype which was recently demonstrated on camera by Lin Bin, the company’s co-founder and president.
What I don’t know yet is if the Smartphone would run on Android 7.0 , Android 8.0 , Android 9.0 or Android Q as the software wasn’t really discussed yet.
The foldable smartphone has a unique symmetrical double-folding design which requires users to fold the smartphone from both the edges to shift from tablet mode to a smartphone form factor. Xiaomi’s foldable smartphone will reportedly run an optimized version of their MIUI firmware to seamlessly scale the screen content between the two usage possibilities.
Bin posted a video to Weibo, which with the help of Google Translate read thus:
“Xiaomi double folding mobile phone is coming! This symmetrical double-folded form perfectly combines the experience of the tablet and mobile phone, which is both practical and beautiful. Although it is still an engineering machine, it is sent out for everyone to see. If you like it, we will consider making a mass production machine in the future.
“In addition, we want to give this engineering machine a name, what do you think is good? I think of two: Xiaomi Dual Flex, Xiaomi MIX Flex.”
In the video, Lin holds a square device and swipes smoothly through videos. He then folds the screen from the left and the right edges and the tablet turns into a slimmer phone-sized device.
The foldable smartphone appears to have a rather glossy finish on the rear panel and actually looks impressively compact and thin even when it is folded!
